ART
My favorite form of artistic expression, woodworking, led me to ophthalmology. Ironically, this decision also drove me away from the hobby as I became increasingly aware of the field’s demand for its surgeons to have intact fingers and eyes…
I’ve now pivoted to other (safer and more 500-sqft-apartment-friendly) forms of 2D and 3D self expression. I find beauty in nature, humanity, anatomy, and pathology. I integrate my artistic perspective with life in and out of work, adding a creative flare to productivity and a sense of productivity to leisure. For me, art is a practice of “leave well enough alone,” focusing on enjoying the process of creation rather than attempting profound originality or absolute perfection.
I am especially grateful to my artistic mentors Dr. Ralph Eagle, Jr, Dr. Tatyana Milman, Mr. Gary Stewart, and Mr. Bruce Hefke for sharing with me their life’s collection of techniques and wisdom.
